The robot allows for laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to be performed with great precision. This was the first time the fully integrated robotic surgery system had been used for this procedure in the United Kingdom and as a result of this technique, the patient recovered in a shorter time and with less pain than if they had undergone traditional gynaecological surgery. Dr Lippiatt has great involvement with research and has presented his work at a number of conferences around the world. He has publications in a number of gynaecological peer-reviewed journals, including his work in robotic gynaecological cancer surgery. He is currently the Principal Investigator for a surgical research trial called "Mirrors" looking at use of robotic assisted surgery in the treatment of ovarian cancer. Dr Lippiatt is passionate about teaching and regularly has students from local schools, medical students from Southampton / St George's Medical School Grenada.
