Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Professor Swati Jha is a Subspecialist in Urogynaecology and Consultant Gynaecologist at the Jessop Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (Sheffield) and Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield. She was appointed to this post in 2008 after completing two years of subspecialty training in urogynaecology, focusing on the management of vaginal prolapse(prolapse of the womb, bowel, bladder) and urinary incontinence. She is lead for the Urogynaecology services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Training Programme Director for the Subspecialty training in Urogynaecology at Sheffield. This is 1 of just 14 centres in the country which provides this highly specialised training. She also leads the Perineal Trauma Service, Mesh Complication Service and the Paediatric Gynaecology services in Sheffield and works closely with a multidisciplinary team of Nurse specialists, Physiotherapists, Colorectal surgeons, Urologists, and GI Physiologists whilst supervising Research Fellows within the department. She has an interest in vulval and perineal problems (including enlarged labia and vaginal laxity) as well as problems with painful sex. Professor Jha provides a range of investigations and treatments related to the above problems at the Jessop Wing (NHS), Claremont Hospital (private only), and BMI Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield (private only). In addition to her busy practice she is also involved in research, teaching, and training. She has more than 150 publications in a number of areas of urogynaecology and has published widely in the area of sexual function in women with pelvic floor disorders and has written 4 books. Additionally, Professor Jha provides expert evidence in clinical negligence and personal injury cases, within her area of specialisation, including perineal trauma, gynaecology, and urogynaecology.
