About Mr

Mr Ash Alam is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a busy NHS practice at Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital, Arrowe Park Hospital, part of the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. He also consults privately at Sefton Diagnostic Centre in Crosby and at Spire Murrayfield Hospital in Wirral.He graduated from the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, in 1994, where he was awarded the Matthews Duncan Prize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He also completed a Bachelor of Science degree in London in 1991. He became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2002. Mr Alam trained in obstetrics and gynaecology mainly in north and east London and spent additional time training in New Zealand. He has been a consultant since 2006.Mr Alam has extensive experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology with a special interest in gynaecological ultrasound scanning and the treatment of heavy, irregular, and painful periods, problem periods, pelvic pain, and postmenopausal problems. He provides one-stop appointments that may include consultation, examination, ultrasound, and treatment in a single visit. He also has expertise in colposcopy, endometriosis, menopause, miscarriage management, sexual health, urogynaecology, and menstrual disorders. He offers both medical and surgical treatments and is trained in the full range of general gynaecological procedures including hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, dilatation and curettage, hysterectomy, ovarian cyst removal, vaginal repair, fibroid treatment, and endometrial ablation. He promotes the use of modern procedures, such as endometrial ablation for heavy periods, as an alternative to hysterectomy, and some procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic.His clinical services also include management of vaginal pain and painful sex (dyspareunia), contraception, vulval biopsy, labial reduction surgery, early pregnancy ultrasound, transvaginal scans, cervical smears and biopsy, endometrial biopsy, management of prolapse, and outpatient hysteroscopy. He works with a multidisciplinary team where required, including psychosexual therapists and urologists through the Sexual Wellbeing Clinic. He also provides support for patients considering termination of pregnancy, with access to counselling and ultrasound where necessary.Mr Alam is trained in colposcopy and provides rapid diagnostic and treatment services for abnormal smear results at his private practice sites. Spire Murrayfield Hospital is equipped with a colposcopy room, where he manages and treats women with abnormal smears. He is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy, and the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy. He also serves as a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Murrayfield Hospital and is a committee member of the British Society of Gynaecological Imaging.
