Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Mr Mark Whittaker is a Consultant Gynaecologist with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and he also sees patients privately at a number of locations. He has over 10 years' experience in general gynaecology and this includes the management of menstrual disorders, endometriosis, pelvic pain, painful sex and the treatment of prolapse. He is experienced in treating patients with heavy and painful periods using both medical and surgical treatments, including Mirena and endometrial ablation procedures. He also performs laparoscopic hysterectomy and has been involved nationally studying different types of hysterectomy. He is able to treat most benign gynaecological conditions, including surgery for prolapse.The management of endometriosis is also a major interest and Mr Whittaker is able to treat this condition using laparoscopic techniques. He was on the working group focused on developing national Endometriosis Centres for the surgical treatment of advanced endometriosis and he is currently elected to the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy board, representing gynaecologists nationally with an interest in keyhole surgery. Mr Whittaker is also involved in teaching and training doctors on keyhole surgery techniques in gynaecology. Wherever possible, he focuses on using these less invasive approaches when treating his patients.
