About Mr

Mr Kirana Arambage is an experienced consultant gynaecologist who specialises in advanced endometriosis, benign complex gynaecology and advanced minimal access gynaecological endoscopic surgery. Since 2014, he has been working as an endometriois surgeon and based at the Endometriosis Care and Research Centre at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford which is one of the busiest BSGE accredited endometriosis centres in the UK. It receives substantial amount of tertiary referrals from different parts of the UK aprt from BOB region. His sub-specialities include complex endometriosis and endometriosis (stage 1-4) involving bowel, bladder, ureters and nerves, extra-pevic endometriosis (endometriosis outside the pelvis), pelvic pain, menstrual and post-menopausal disorders, hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, cystectomy, oophorectomy and fibroid removal (myomectomy). Mr Arambage first qualified with an MBBS in 2002 from Sri Lanka before going on to complete RCOG specialist training in Eastern and London postgraduate deaneries. He then got selected to complete RCOG accredited specialist training modules in advanced laparoscopic/hysteroscopic surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford in 2012 through competitive national recruitment. He also achieved a master's degree in advanced gynaecological endoscopy from the University of Surrey with a merit pass. He is also the immediate past Honorary Secretary of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) and has contributed to the establishment of  international affairs and surgical innovation subcommittees, surgical training, BSGE/ESGE guidelines on the management of fluid distension media in operative hysteroscopy as well as the Cochrane review of laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis. He is a co-author of the Oxford Handbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecoilogy - 4th latest edition which is published in 2023 by Oxford University Press and this book is used by medical students and doctors in training globally. Mr Arambage has a passion for medical education and spends time teaching at the University of Oxford where he is an honorary senior clinical lecturer. He is the preceptor for Oxford advanced laparoscopic training programme over the last few years and has been training other consultants too. He worked as the lead for gynaecological endoscopic simulation and training for Oxford postgraduate deanery (HEETV) and oversaw speciality registrar (ST1-ST7) training over the last 5 years. He has published work in his specialists areas and invited to speak nationally and intenationally. Mr Arambage frequently (weekly basis) carries out the following procedures: Laparoscopic excision of recto-vaginal endometriosis +/- shaving of bowel endometriosis JOINT cases in Laparoscopic removal of endometriosis from bladder/ureteric/bowel/diaphragmatic/liver and abdominal wall (Caesarean section scar/port site) jointly with other specialists in urology, colorectal surgery, Hepatobiliary surgery, thoracic surgery and plastic surgery.
