Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Mr Joel Naftalin is a Consultant Gynaecologist with a substantive NHS post at University College London Hospitals where he works in the world-renowned early pregnancy unit and general gynaecology service. His main areas of interest are gynaecological ultrasound, benign gynaecology and benign gynaecological surgery, emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy care. He manages patients with a wide range of symptoms, including heavy or painful periods, pelvic pain, and irregular bleeding. As an expert in ultrasound, he is able to diagnose and treat a wide range of benign gynaecological conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and ovarian cysts. He performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, as well as open surgery when required. Additionally, he carries out outpatient surgical procedures, including the surgical management of miscarriage, hysteroscopy to remove fibroids or polyps, and the removal of retained coils. Mr Naftalin gained his medical degree from University College London in 2002, before undertaking postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in North East London. During his training, he took time out to complete a research fellowship in gynaecology ultrasound with Professor Davor Jurkovic and was awarded a research MD for his research into the role of gynaecological ultrasound in the assessment of adenomyosis and endometrial cancer. He went on to complete a fellowship in minimal access surgery at Homerton University Hospital, where he also helped to establish their Endometriosis Centre. He has published many papers and remains actively involved in research, regularly delivering lectures on emergency gynaecology, early pregnancy, and gynaecological ultrasound.
