Mr. Elias Kovoor is a UK-based consultant gynaecologist and advanced laparoscopic/robotic surgeon. He specialises in treating endometriosis, pelvic pain, prolapse, and other benign gynaecological conditions. With international training in advanced laparoscopic surgery from the UK, France, and Japan, he completed a fellowship at IRCAD Strasbourg. After his initial medical education in India, he underwent further training in the UK and began his career as a consultant in 2010. Mr. Kovoor is the founder of a specialised endometriosis service at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and was the first to introduce V-NOTES surgery in the UK. He regularly performs robotic surgery for complex cases and holds clinics at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup and Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, which are part of a BSGE-accredited tertiary center. In addition to endometriosis, he also treats conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, and prolapse. He is actively involved in teaching laparoscopic and V-NOTES surgery to other medical professionals both in the UK and abroad. Training Prior to starting his registrar training in the UK, he did undergraduate and postgraduate training in India. He successfully completed registrar training from Nottingham in 2009 which included advanced training in laparoscopy and Urogynaecology. Fellowship He did fellowship in advanced laparoscopic training from IRCAD, Strasbourg which is a internaltionally recognised institute for advanced endometriosis surgery. He was one of the endometriosis specialists for this centre. He was also the lead for Colposcopy and rapid access services for this hospital. He moved to Dartford and Gravesham NHS trust in 2018, where he established a new endometriosis service for Kent and the surrounding area. He does regular endometriosis clinics at Queen Mary Hospital, Sidcup and Darent Valley hospital at Dartford. This is a BSGE accredited tertiary centre that caters to complex endometriosis treatment for Kent and the South east. Areas of expertise His main area of expertise is in Pelvic pain and Complex endometriosis. Besides Endometriosis and pelvic pain, his expertise also extends to general gynaecology and benign disorders such as Fibroids, Adenomyosis, Abnormal bleeding, Prolapse and Ovarian cysts. He is also interested in certain fertility procedures like resection of septum, tubal surgeries including reversal of sterilisation. He is one of the pioneers in the UK for V NOTE (Vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopy) surgeries and does a variety or procedures with this minimally invasive technique. This avoids any abdominal scars and has a much quicker recovery. This is often used for performing procedures like hysterectomy, removal of ovaries and large ovarian cysts. In view of his expertise in advanced laparoscopic and Robotic surgeries; most of the procedures are performed as keyhole procedures. He receives several tertiary referrals for advanced procedures especially relating to endometriosis and V NOTE surgeries. Research and Training He has several publications and research articles in the field of endometriosis and V NOTE surgeries. He is passionate about training and teaching and is one the advanced laparoscopic trainer for the KSS deanery ( Kent, Surrey, Sussex) He is a faculty for many laparoscopic and V NOTE courses both within the United Kingdom and internationally
