Miss Sharmistha Guha is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at West Middlesex University Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, part of the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust. After graduating in 2000 from India, she began her career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the renowned All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. In 2004, she moved to London to further her career, training in the Northwest Thames region of the London Deanery.Miss Guha has developed a special interest in early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology. She took time out of her training to conduct research in this field at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Her research includes several multicenter early pregnancy projects, such as studies on pregnancies of unknown location, and she has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals. As a regular speaker at national and international forums, she continues to contribute to the academic community. Miss Guha is also skilled in early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound, having completed a postgraduate diploma in this field from King's College London in 2011.Her extensive clinical and surgical experience includes advanced training in benign gynaecological open and laparoscopic surgery, acute gynaecology and early pregnancy care, and advanced labour ward management. Working at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust, which includes both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (a tertiary care unit) and West Middlesex Hospital, Miss Guha manages a varied workload. She conducts weekly gynaecology clinics, ultrasound sessions, rapid access clinics, one-stop clinics, and colposcopy sessions. She also performs theatre lists and has regular labour ward sessions, ensuring that she stays up-to-date with the latest medical practices.Miss Guha holds several leadership roles within the NHS. She served as the Clinical Lead for the Termination of Pregnancy and Gynaecology Risk Management service at West Middlesex University Hospital from 2014 to 2017. She is the Regional Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) Preceptor for Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy, overseeing specialist trainees in Northwest London. Additionally, she is the RCOG Preceptor for Benign Gynaecological Surgery, recognised for her ability to provide training in both open and laparoscopic surgery.As an MRCOG Examiner and with various other roles at the RCOG, including Webinar Co-convenor and Standard Setting Committee member, Miss Guha continues to be a prominent figure in the field. She provides a comprehensive range of elective and emergency gynaecological services, including ultrasound, early pregnancy care, colposcopy, and benign gynaecological surgery.
