Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Mr Ahmed Abdelbar is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Guy's and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, a centre of excellence ranked first in the UK. He provides his services across the Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology divisions. His specialties of interest are complex obstetric surgery, complex open and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery and the early detection of gynaecological cancers. He is the co-lead for complex obstetric surgeries at St Thomas' Hospital, where he manages Placenta Accreta Spectrum and complex deliveries. Additionally, he performs advanced open surgeries and minimally invasive gynaecological surgeries for ovarian cysts, fibroids, pelvic pain, adenomyosis and endometriosis. He is part of the ovarian scanning clinic which is dedicated for the early detection of Ovarian cancers. Before joining Guy's and St Thomas’, he held a consultant position at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Abdelbar qualified and trained at Cairo University Hospital, Egypt, where he was appointed a senior lecturer and consultant. He obtained an MD degree in management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum from Cairo University. He also achieved advanced training in Minimal access surgery and Gynaecological oncology at Frimley Health and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS foundation trusts. He completed an advanced training in Gynaecological Oncology, Colposcopy, and Advanced Labour Ward Practice. He obtained the minimal invasive gynaecological surgery (MIGS) Diploma from the ESGE. He is a certified colposcopist and a member of the RCOG, BSCCP, BSGE, ESGO, and ESGE. Known for his friendly demeanour, and his dedication to providing integrated care to his patients, Mr Abdelbar offers a fast diagnosis of benign and cancerous gynaecological conditions in addition to quick recovery time through performing key hole surgery. He has several research publications in the field. He speaks both English and Arabic and provides face to face and online consultations.
