Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Prof. Vasanth Andrews is a consultant gynaecologist renowned for his extensive expertise in surgical interventions and the management of complex conditions arising post-childbirth. With over 25 years of experience, Prof. Andrews is highly regarded for his contributions to gynaecology, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS). Prof. Andrews specialises in operative laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including procedures such as hysterectomies and the treatment of endometriosis. He obtained his medical degree from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London, in 1996. He received training in minimally invasive surgery under Professor Jeremy Wright and achieved a Master's degree with Distinction in Advanced Gynaecological Minimally Invasive Surgery. A significant portion of Prof. Andrews' practice focuses on managing issues arising from childbirth, particularly obstetric anal sphincter injuries (third and fourth-degree tears), perineal problems, and conditions affecting postpartum recovery. He is experienced in performing endoanal ultrasound and anal manometry to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. His doctoral research was dedicated to enhancing the understanding and management of OASIS. Prof. Andrews is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG). He is also a member of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). In addition to his clinical practice, Prof. Andrews has served on the council of the RCOG and as a divisional medical director. He maintains memberships with the Medical Defence Union (MDU) and the British Medical Association (BMA), demonstrating his dedication to professional standards and patient care.
