Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Miss Rumana Islam is a Consultant Gynaecologist and RCOG-accredited subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. She holds an NHS position at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, where she leads the fertility preservation service and works with individuals and couples experiencing fertility challenges. She has a particular interest in egg freezing, complex fertility preservation, menstrual disorders, hormonal conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, and perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms. She is dedicated to supporting patients in planning their fertility options and managing a wide range of gynaecological issues. Her private practice is based at The Lister Hospital and Chelsea Outpatients, both part of HCA Healthcare UK. She offers consultations and treatments across all areas of benign gynaecology and reproductive medicine, including conception support, egg collections and transfers, IVF, ICSI, intrauterine insemination, ovulation induction, gynaecological scans and procedures such as operative hysteroscopy. She also manages gynaecological conditions such as irregular periods, heavy menstrual bleeding, endometrial polyps, premature ovarian insufficiency, recurrent miscarriage, and menopause-related symptoms. Consultations can also include ultrasound scans during the appointment if indicated. Miss Islam graduated from the University of Nottingham before completing her specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in North West London, with clinical experience at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. She completed an MD(Res) at Imperial College London, sponsored by the Wellcome Trust and NIHR, with research focused on reproductive endocrinology. She also trained in IVF at the renowned Hammersmith Hospital and completed her subspecialist training in reproductive medicine in Oxford, at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Miss Islam is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the British Fertility Society. She has published her research in high-impact journals including Human Reproduction and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, and regularly presents her work at national and international conferences. She speaks English and sees adult patients in both NHS and private settings.
