About Mr

Mr Sumit Kar is a Consultant Gynaecologist specialising in Laparoscopic & Hysteroscopic surgery. He is based in South London at Ramsay North Downs Hospital in Caterham and Spire St Anthony's Hospital in Cheam. He was first appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in 2013 at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust in Redhill. Mr Kar obtained his primary medical qualification at Calcutta University, India in 1994 followed by his MD in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Sambalpur University in 1999. Mr Kar later moved to the UK and undertook his specialist gynaecology training across London in reputed institutions, including Bart's Health and the Leicester Royal Infirmary, completing his training in 2013. Mr Kar also holds a Certificate in Pelvic Ultrasound from the British Fertility Society, as well as a Diploma in Colposcopy from the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, making him an accredited Colposcopist. Mr Kar has clinical interests in the use of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures and the management a range of gynaecological conditions, including the following: Menopause Fibroid Uterus Menorrhagia Uterovaginal prolapse Endometriosis Ovarian cysts Alongside his clinical work, Mr Kar has been a trainer in hysteroscopic procedures at British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy since 2012 and an examiner for MRCOG Final Examination at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologist since 2019. He has also contributed significantly in the field of academic research, including as the first author for 'A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomised Studies on Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Prevention of Early Preterm Delivery'.
