About Mr

Mr Hemant Vakharia is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with specialist training in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He works at Barnet Hospital, part of the Royal Free NHS Trust, where he also served as the Clinical Director for Women's Services for five years.Mr Vakharia qualified from the Royal Free & University College Medical School in 2005, earning his MBBS along with a first-class intercalated degree with honours in molecular medicine. He trained in the North Central & East Thames rotation and further enhanced his skills with additional training at Birmingham Women's Hospital, where he specialised in minimal access surgery.Mr Vakharia is proficient in managing many gynaecological conditions using minimally invasive techniques. These include endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, adenomyosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which he regularly treats in his NHS practice. He also frequently manages patients with pelvic and period pain, couples struggling with infertility, and other general gynaecological issues.Alongside his colleague Mr Yousri Afifi, he offers laparoscopic insertion of cervical cerclage (a keyhole procedure to place a stitch in the cervix) for the management of late miscarriage. Passionate about service improvements, training, and medical innovation, Mr Vakharia is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy, and the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy.
