Miss Marina Fernando is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Broomfield Hospital, specialising in high-risk obstetrics, acute gynaecology, early pregnancy care, and outpatient hysteroscopy. As the Clinical Lead for her department and for Early Pregnancy and Acute gynaecology, she is committed to enhancing the safety and quality of healthcare for women.In addition to her hospital duties, Miss Fernando serves as the Regional Quality Improvement Lead for UCL Partners (Health Innovation Network, NHS). In this role, she has spearheaded significant maternity initiatives across London and Essex, including PReCePT (aiming to reduce cerebral palsy in preterm infants), BSOTS (improving maternity triage), and MEWS (tools for identifying mothers in distress).After earning her degree from Barts and The London School of Medicine in 2005 and finishing her specialty training, she began her career as a consultant at Homerton University Hospital. There, she established birth reflection clinics, enhanced postnatal and ambulatory gynaecology services, and created a program that provides immediate postpartum contraception, such as implants, coils, or oral contraceptives.Her clinical passions include managing menstrual disorders and postmenopausal health, as well as conducting gynaecology and early pregnancy scans. She also performs outpatient gynaecological procedures like hysteroscopy and surgical management of miscarriage, with a focus on improving patient comfort. She has been a key figure in improving ambulatory gynaecology services in both the NHS and private sectors, ensuring safe and effective outpatient care.Miss Fernando is dedicated to teaching and mentoring future medical professionals and frequently presents her research at conferences. She is passionate about merging clinical expertise with service innovation to better women's health throughout their lives.
