Dr. Emma Shawkat is a Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-Specialist in Fetal and Maternal Medicine at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. She graduated from The University of Manchester in 2006 and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the North West Deanery, completing sub-specialty training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. Dr Shawkat holds an MD for her research on hypertension in pregnancy. As the Maternal Medicine lead at St Mary’s Hospital, Dr Shawkat specialises in managing women with complex medical conditions such as diabetes and renal disease. She provides antenatal care in the Maternal Medicine Clinic and Velocity Clinic, where she treats women with pre-existing diabetes referred from across the region. Dr. Shawkat also serves as the lead obstetrician for the North West Maternal Medicine Network, working to improve maternal care, outcomes, and patient experience. In the Fetal Medicine Unit, she performs detailed anatomy scans and complex invasive procedures, including intrauterine transfusions, amniocentesis, and chorionic villus sampling. With extensive experience in managing complex deliveries, including caesarean sections, Dr. Shawkat is dedicated to delivering high-quality, holistic patient care.
